Endings

Samhain 2021 will be an emotional one for me. I have some difficult choices to make and a new direction I am ready to follow so the culmination of what has felt like a lifetime of work (it has been only 5 or so…) seems appropriate. I throw myself into the things that I love and am interested in so completely that by the time I re-emerge I have changed and what suited me once, may suit me again, but it’s not right for me now.

I am being purposefully vague because I find that speaking of change, changes the outcome and I would like to keep this change sacred. The point is… THINGS ARE ENDING. And not a beginning in sight, but things usually start before we can perceive them so I trust that where I’m going exists & it’s ready for me too.

Ancestors

Sometimes Ancestors are the only family worth knowing!

Connecting with the Ancestors of both myself and others through mediumship has been traendously healing and liberating. When I connect with my ancestors I am less reliant on my living relatives to make sense of myself. Experiencing loss & grief, following the lead of my ancestral guides, I was able to feel and see the history of family & humanity that lives within me. Our pains and our pleasures are our own but they are informed by the lives that came before us. When I am in touch with my blood ancestors I am not alone; The land speaks as well, there are spirits and energies who want to connect and teach, and the more space I have given them the more space I have found within me.

This Samhain I dedicate to the souls and bones directly beneath me. The history of the land where I live and work and discover. I introduce myself to them as a friend and I offer myself as a vessel to deliver messages or to simply BE someone who lives by their lessons, with respect.

I dedicate this year to the Ancestors of Land & Place. In Canada, or whatever the place wishes to call itself, whatever it is called by those who are knit into its fabric. I ask to be woven, taught, realigned, to be an ally & a warrior for natural justice.

Grief

Samhain ritual this year is a dedication to healing from Grief. In May I lost someone and it was complicated. My daughter’s father, my ex-husband, someone whom I loved and who I always considered a friend, even when I was blocking him to protect myself, I cared about him very deeply and I always kind of hoped that one day he would get help and get better and we could watch our daughter grow as proper friends.

I would send him pictures and stories about our little girl as she grew and he would see himself in her. He would tell me about how she appeared in his dreams and though he only saw her a few times after she turned 3, his dream version of her sounded pretty accurate!

He had a dark and troubled side to him. He was an alcoholic, addict, he suffered from undiagnosed mental health issues as well as trauma from a very difficult childhood. He was never able to outgrow his past.

This Samhain I dedicate myself to healing and leaning into my grief. My daughter and I are making an altar for him and have crafted a ritual to help us to heal and to give his spirit peace. Do I think that I will magically feel better after? No, but I think that sometimes ritual is not so much about miracles as it is about feeling a process or idea in the body.
